The Foreign Affairs Ministry of France announced that it regrets and condemns the recent clash that occurred between the Armenians and the Azerbaijanis in the French National Assembly building.
The incident occurred on Tuesday during an event, which was organized by the French-Armenian community and several French MPs, and held in connection with the 25th anniversary of the Armenian pogroms in Sumgait, Azerbaijan.
But the Azerbaijanis who were present at the event resorted to provocation. First, they refused to stand up for a minute of silence to honor the memory of the pogrom victims. Next, they stated that they will stand up solely “for the Khojaly victims.”
Subsequently, a fight broke out and, ultimately, the Azerbaijanis were taken out. According to the Armenian side, the Azerbaijanis themselves had provoked the brawl, the website of Nouvelles d’Arménie monthly of France informs, RFE/RL Armenian service reports.
