Under the auspices of the Permanent Mission of Armenia to the United Nations (UN) and several NGOs, a conference on genocide prevention was convened Thursday at the UN Headquarters.

Ambassador Garen Nazarian,  Armenia’s Permanent Representative to UN, delivered opening remarks at the event.

He noted that the crime of genocide repeats in different corners of the world. In this context, the ambassador reflected on the resolution, which the UN Human Rights Council had recently adopted at Armenia’s initiative, with respect to the prevention of genocides.

Nazarian also spoke about the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide, and noted that Armenia will continue its persistent steps in this direction and the Turkish government will have to accept the truth.

In addition, Armenia’s Permanent Representative to UN saluted the position of all countries and international organizations that have recognized the Armenian Genocide, and the stance of those Turkish intellectuals, students and citizens that acknowledge the importance of recognizing this genocide and, as a result, preventing this crime.
