YEREVAN. – Following President Serzh Sargsyan’s assumption of second term in office, a large cross-section of the society is waiting whether or not amnesty will be declared in Armenia, Hraparak daily reports.

“We tried to find [this] out from the relevant authorities. The President’s Office said it is not expected.

Nonetheless, there are claims that the authorities are thinking if this is preannounced, the news about an amnesty could ‘boost’ an increase in crime.

But Justice Minister Hrayr Tovmasyan likewise denied [this news].

‘No, there will not be an amnesty; and I announce this formally,’” Hraparak quotes.
