YEREVAN. – The Armenian Red Cross Society (ARCS) on Monday commenced the distribution of humanitarian aid to the fourteen villages that were most effected by the hailstorm that hit the area in May.  

Four-thousand local residents will be provided food and hygiene kits. The content of each kit is calculated to meet the 2-3 months of food and hygiene needs of the affected families.

Governor Ashot Ghahramanyan and ARCS President Mkhitar Mnatsakanyan will be on hand at the distribution of the humanitarian aid on Thursday.

To note, the catastrophic hailstorm, which struck Armavir Region between May 12 and 17, caused great damages to the agricultural fields and orchards of 46 communities in the region. As a result, 12,800 families were affected, and the amount of damage was estimated at $60 million.
