YEREVAN. – Thirteen citizens who were stuck in Abkhazia have returned to Armenia.

Several weeks ago Armenian Ombudsman’s office was addressed by Davit Gevorgyan, a resident of Rostov-on-Don, a city in Russia’s south.

On June 10, Gevorgyan and his family went to Abkhazia, but could not come back to Russia after border guards banned his wife Marina Gevorgyan from entering the country without providing any explanations.

The woman was involved in a car accident and hospitalized in Gagra. She did not receive necessary medical aid, while the Armenian consulate failed to solve the problem.

Armenian Ombudsman Karen Andreasyan appealed to the Russian foreign office to find the way out. Foreign Ministry’s response said Davit Gevorgyan together with other 12 citizens was banned from entering Russia due to different reasons. Later they returned to Armenia by Sochi-Yerevan flight on August 2.

The names of the citizens were changed.
