YEREVAN. – Biogas can cover 15 percent of Armenia’s demand for natural gas.

Academician Evrik Afrikyan, Head of Research at the Center of Microbiology and Microbial Depository, told the aforesaid to Armenian News-NEWS.am.

In line with the center data, one ton of biomass may comprise 300-400 cubic meters of methane.

According to calculations by Center researcher Grigori Karagyozyan, if all of Armenia’s animal farms start reprocessing biogas waste, the country would receive about one million cubic meters of methane per day; this equals to about 15 percent of Armenia’s daily natural gas demand.
