YEREVAN. – Syrian government forces have achieved major success in military operations against the armed opposition, expert on Arabic studies Sargis Grigoryan said.

The expert is convinced that the opposition is behind rumors about the use of chemical weapons in Damascus. It would be disadvantageous for Syrian authorities to use chemical weapons at the time when the country is visited by UN experts.

Meanwhile, the fact of use of chemical weapons by the opposition means that Bashar Assad has no control over the entire. The situation may change in favor of Assad, if a large part of population, which currently remains neutral, gathers around the president.

Grigoryan noted that armed groups operating in Syria first present themselves as the representatives of Al-Qaeda, and subsequently declare a separate independent Islamist organization.

He also emphasized that the situation in Syria is unpredictable, and developments are uncontrollable.
