YEREVAN. – The Government of Armenia on Thursday adopted a decision to continue providing assistance to the Armavir Region villagers that were most effected by the hailstorm that hit the area in May.  

According to the Labor and Social Affairs Ministry report, some of the amount, which the government had allocated in August, is not yet used, and 478 farmers already have received assistance. 

Labor and Social Affairs Minister Artem Asatryan informed that each affected villager received a 50,000 dram (approx. $124) assistance and people were provided with jobs, with a 4,000 dram (approx. $10) daily pay. 

Citing studies and surveys, the minister stated that the respective program was successful.

In turn Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan suggested presenting these studies to the media. 

To note, the catastrophic hailstorm, which struck Armavir Region between May 12 and 17, caused great damages to the agricultural fields and orchards of 46 communities in the region. As a result, 12,800 families were affected, and the amount of damage was estimated at $60 million.
