A new EU visa code is effective starting April 5.

The document provides for the legal provisions regulating visa issues and stipulates a number of innovations and procedures.

While issuing a visa, special attention will be drawn to authenticity of the documents. Illegal migration and undiminished security risks will be studied thoroughly.

European Home Affairs Commissioner Cecilia Malmstrom said that granting visas for the Schengen states to third-country nationals will become more precise, transparent and faster.

“The EU Visa Code will ensure that the application of EU visa law is fully harmonized,” she added.

New Code increases the transparency and legal certainty. It requires providing a motivation for refusals of visa applications and gives the opportunity for appealing against negative decisions, EU business website reads.
