YEREVAN. – The very fact that protest actions staged in Yerevan were approved by the authorities is a step forward on the way to freedom of expression and free speech, head of EU delegation to Armenia said.

Traian Hristea’s came in response to a question on protest against Customs Union staged in the capital Yerevan on Monday.

“I was following through media the protests and actions of police. I hope that issues will be clearly investigated and will be proceed in accordance with law. If we compare what happened in Kyiv and what happened here, we have the answers,” he said.  

In any case EU will be looking forward to see the results for investigation, and “we do hope that the investigations will be undertaken with respect for freedom of expression and all principles that member states of the Council of Europe are subscribed to,” Hristea emphasized.
