YEREVAN. – The demonstrators, who had gathered Wednesday in front of the Armenian National Assembly (NA) building, are marching toward the Office of the Human Rights Defender (photo).   

To note, the protestors demand the removal of the mandatory component from the Law on Cumulative Pension in Armenia.

Following the ombudsman’s office, the demonstrators will march toward the Government Building and, subsequently to the ruling Republican Party office.  

On the same day, the four non-coalition NA factions motioned to put off for one year the application of the mandatory component of the aforesaid law. But the motion was rejected by a vote of 54 “against” and 46 “for”. 

Subsequently, several opposition MPs called upon the demonstrators to continue their fight. They also announced that they have set up a working group that will petition to the Constitutional Court.  

The police are accompanying the protesters marching toward the Office of the Human Rights Defender.

In addition, the drivers of the vehicles traveling along this route are expressing their support to the marchers by sounding the horns of their automobiles, the Armenian News-NEWS.am reporter informs.
