YEREVAN. – The residents of Armavir Region are protesting against local authorities’ decision to close the maternity hospital located not far from Metsamor town.

Around 200 people gathered on Metsamor road not far from the NPP, urging authorities to revise the decision, one of the locals told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

She said the residents of Metsamor had appealed to local administration and Health Ministry, but they only explained that maternity hospital is situated in a place that is difficult to reach.

However, the local residents claim it is easier to reach this hospital than facilities located in Armavir town. The Health Ministry advised to address the local authorities.

Answering to the Armenian News-NEWS.am inquiry, spokesperson for the Ministry Anahit Haytyan also advised to address the local authorities.

Meanwhile, the doctors of maternity hospital are not participating in a protest action as they were promised new jobs.

The local administration promised to send a written answer to agency’s inquiry.
