YEREVAN. – The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) failed to achieve having permanent presence in Vazashen-Paravaqar border between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the press service of the ICRC Yerevan office informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Two weeks ago the heads of administrations of the Armenian border villages addressed ICRC with a request to organize permanent presence at the mentioned section, taking into account occasional fire from the Azerbaijani side.

“After long talks with the Armenian and Azerbaijani authorities we must state with regret that we failed to impalement plan on permanent presence of ICRC on the border,” the representative of the office said.

At the same time the delegation informed about being in constant contact with the heads of villages and ready to discuss alternative methods of influence.

“ICRC will continue the work in the region to provide assistance to the population,” they noted.

However, the delegation did not name the reasons for failure.

Spokesperson for Armenian Defense Ministry Artsrun Hovhannisytan told Armenian News-NEWS.am that the Armenian Defense Ministry and the Defense Army of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic are ready to guarantee security of ICRC representatives.

In fact Azerbaijani side once again demonstrated unwillingness to establish atmosphere of trust. Azerbaijani side also continues to refuse to withdraw snipers from the line of contacts and create mechanisms to investigate the incidents.
