U.S. President Barack Obama thanked Georgia for the significant aid in military operations in Afghanistan. He expressed gratitude to his Georgian counterpart Mikheil Saakashvili during the telephone conversation on April 6.

White House confirmed Obama’s consistent support to the territorial integrity of Georgia, as well as importance of refraining from provocative moves by all parties of the region, Voice of America informs.

Obama made a point of his Georgian counterpart’s commitment to the process of democratization and economic reforms in the country.

According to Georgian Defense Ministry, the solemn ceremony of sending Georgian military contingent to Afghanistan will be held today. 750 servicemen of the 31st Georgian military unit will join U.S. troops in Afghanistan.
