YEREVAN. – An attempt is made to form a political force in Armenia, ruling Republican Party (RPA) MP Lernik Aleksanyan said at a press conference on Wednesday.

Aleksanyan commented on the “Civic Accord” initiative spearheaded by opposition MP Nikol Pashinyan.

“There were similar attempts in the past, too; what’s important is the result. If the opposition deals solely with the matter of the authorities, it will not work. But if it designs a program and is guided by it, that is another issue,” the RPA MP noted.

He added that one of Armenia’s misfortunes is that the country does not have a strong opposition because if it had a strong opposition, it also would have a strong power.

At the same time, Lernik Aleksanyan expressed a wish that the “Civic Accord” establish as a strong opposition.

Other speaker of the press conference, opposition politician Gurgen Yeghiazaryan, said that he is in favor of any step whose initiators announce that they are against President Serzh Sargsyan.
