YEREVAN. – French Ambassador to Armenia Henri Reynaud said his country is a major investor in Armenian economy.

Ambassador noted that the joint statement adopted by Armenia and EU during the summit in Vilnius lays background for further cooperation.

“The Vilnius summit was a landmark in our policy of partnership,” Henri Reynaud said during the Thursday press conference.

After the choice made by Armenia in early September, in Vilnius the country got a good opportunity to confirm its intention to develop cooperation in the European direction, he emphasized.

“The statement, adopted by Armenia and the European Union in Vilnius, can be called one summarizing results and outlining future prospects, namely reforms in democracy, governance, justice and reforms in different sectors of the economy,” Ambassador said.

As to Armenia-France bilateral relations, active cooperation is proved by political meetings at the highest level, including those on the side of France as a co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group.

“As for the economy, do not forget that France is the largest western investor in the Armenian economy. These are big companies that you all know - Orange, Pernod Ricard, Credit Agricole. Amundi investment fund, affiliate of Credit Agricole, will be here to provide services of a pension fund. In addition, Veolie Generale and SAUR are providing water services in Yerevan and the republic, and of course, the Carrefour supermarket chain, one of the largest in the world, which is preparing to enter the Armenian market,” the diplomat added.
