April 8, U.S. President Barack Obama and his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev will sign a new START treaty in Prague, Vesti reports.

President Medvedev has already arrived in Prague and held talks with Czech President Vaclav Klaus.

The new treaty signed between Russia and U.S. will transfer bilateral relations on a higher level in the field of disarmament.

Earlier, Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Prikhodko stated that Moscow reserves the right to withdraw from the treaty if potential of the U.S. ballistic missile defense increases to an extent of jeopardy to Russian national security.

“Russia and the United States have demonstrated their joint responsibility for maintaining strategic stability in the world, and were not guided exclusively by their own national security interests. This is the key aspect,” ITAR-TASS quotes Prikhodko.

The previous U.S- Russian Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty signed in 1991 expired on December 5, 2009.
