YEREVAN. – Armenia has sentenced itself to a monopoly of Gazprom till 2043, member of Heritage opposition faction said.

Alexander Arzumanyan’s remark came during the parliamentary hearings on the draft Russian-Armenian agreements on energy sector.

Quoting the draft treaty, Arzumanyan said that by this agreement Armenia makes Russian Gazprom a monopolist on gas supplies to Armenia till 2043.

“Our children and grandchildren will have to pay for this decision. Why are you hanging such a burden on them? We may have another beneficial partner during this period,” he said.

After the hearings Armenian Energy Minister Armen Movsisyan said that Armenia can buy gas from any supplier.

“If anyone offers us more advantageous conditions than today, we will accept them,” Minister said.
