YEREVAN. – The agreement, on the sale of the shares of ArmRusGazprom Company of Armenia and the future conditions of operations, runs contrary to the laws of Armenia.

Opposition Armenian National Congress (ANC) bloc National Assembly (NA) Faction leader, ANC Party Vice-Chairman Levon Zurabyan stated the aforesaid at the NA special session on Friday.

As per Zurabyan, the natural gas agreements, which the Armenian and the Russian governments have signed, are dealings that are tantamount to national treason.

The ANC MP asked why the Armenian government and ArmRusGazprom have reserved themselves the right to sell the remaining 20 percent of the company shares, which the government owns, thereby breaking the law in the country.

“If we purchase cheaper gas from Iran but Russia does not agree, how will you bring that gas to Armenia? Why do you violate the Constitution [of Armenia]?” Zurabyan asked.

In response, Energy and Natural Resources Minister Armen Movsisyan noted that there is no restriction on this matter, and there are no such restrictions in the agreements.

To note, the Constitutional Court of Armenia on Thursday ruled that the most recent Armenian-Russian agreements are consistent with the Constitution of the country.
