YEREVAN. – New centers of force are being formed in the Middle East, says expert on Arabic studies Sargis Grigoryan.
“The elimination of Syrian chemical weapons was carried out in concrete terms. The same cannot be said about the Geneva process aimed at resolving Syrian crisis,” he noted.
The point is there is controversy between Syrian opposition groups, and there is no common position, the expert believes. This questions effectiveness of the upcoming Geneva II conference.
“Serious global and geopolitical processes are ongoing around Syria. We can see controversy between longstanding allies, first of all between US and its allies – Israel and Saudi Arabia,” the expert told reporters on Saturday.
The Geneva II conference will be held on January 22, 2014 in Montreux.
