A moment ago, at 8:00 p.m., a meeting devoted to the 95th commemoration of the Armenian Genocide initiated by ARF Dashnaktsutyun started. Despite the bad weather thousands with banners and Armenian flags gathered near Mesrop Mashtots Institute of Ancient Manuscripts (Matenadaran) to protest against Turkish policy of Genocide negation.

Thereafter, and traditional torchlight procession to Armenian Genocide Memorial (Tsitsernakaberd) will be held.

On April 23, Armenian students gathered at Grigor Lusavorich (Gregory the Illuminator) Church and offered a prayer in memory of the Armenian Genocide victims.

One of the greatest tragedies in the human history occurred in Ottoman Turkey during World War 1. The Establishment of Ottoman Turkey organized the annihilation of about 1.5 million Armenians. On the night of April 24, 1915, all Armenian intellectual were arrested in Constantinople. April 24 is Day in commemoration of the Armenian Genocide victims.

The Armenian massacre in Western Armenia and other parts of Ottoman Empire is the first genocide of the 20th century.

The Armenian Genocide has been recognized and denounced by many states and influential international agencies. In France, Belgium and Switzerland the law provides for criminal responsibility for denying the Armenian Genocide.

Russia adopted two resolutions denouncing the Armenian Genocide, on April 14, 1995, and on April 22, 2005.

Forty-two of the 50 U.S. states officially recognized and denounced the Armenian Genocide.
