The Armenian people is celebrating the liberation of Shuhsi, the spiritual and cultural center of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh). The city was liberated as a result of an operation conducted under the command of Colonel Arkady Ter-Tadevosyan.

Azeris made Shushi a permanent fire position used for shelling Stepanakert and Armenian villages daily. The liberation of Shushi brought about a radical change in the course of war. The encirclement was broken out. On May 18 the Armenian freedom fighters reached the Armenian border.
