The Embassy of Armenia in Moscow has no information on Armenian businessman Armen Zakaryan’s shooting and killing of Russian official Nikolai Azarov. 

The embassy staff told Armenian News-NEWS.am that, at this point, they can neither confirm nor deny the information which the Russian media have disseminated.

“There is no official information at this moment; [but] we are taking steps to verify. Also, there is no information on whether or not Armen Zakaryan is an RA [i.e., the Republic of Armenia] citizen,” the embassy staff noted.      

The Russian Federation (RF) Federal Migration Service Deputy Head of Moscow Department, Nikolai Azarov, had died on November 5 in the Sakha (Yakutia) Republic of the RF, the Russian NTV television reported.   

According to the source, the incident happened while hunting.

“Azarov’s friend, MCITY Development construction company director Armen Zakaryan, accidentally fired a rifle shot in the car,” the TV reported. The shot hit Azarov, who died on the spot.

Zakaryan was detained, and a criminal case was opened.
