YEREVAN. – The President of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, on Tuesday issued a message of condolence in connection with Monday’s tragic road accident that occurred in the Shirak Region.   

“Sharing the boundless grief and pain of the families and relatives of the victims, I express my sincere support to them, I wish [them] patience and fortitude, and a speedy recovery to the injured.

“I am confident [that], the law enforcement agencies will perform a thorough examination of all the circumstances of the incident, determine all the causes of this tragedy, and the perpetrators will be brought to account with the ultimate gravity of the law,” the President’s message of condolence specifically runs.

Seven people in a passenger minibus were burned alive in a tragic road accident on Armenia’s Gyumri-Yerevan highway on Monday evening, as the minibus had crashed into a truck. As a result, the minibus had caught fire, seven passengers were burned alive, whereas another seven were hospitalized. The Police regional department of investigation has launched a criminal investigation, and the truck driver, M. Vardanyan, is detained.
