The fourteen-year-old boy, Edmon Simonyan, who was injured in Monday’s tragic road accident in Armenia’s Shirak Region, has been transferred to Surb Astvatsamayr [Holy Mother of God] Medical Center in capital city Yerevan, where he will undergo planned surgery.  

Gyumri City Hospital Director Armen Isahakyan told the abovementioned to Armenian News-NEWS.am. He added, however, that the boy’s mother, Hasmik Hovhannisyan, will undergo surgery at their hospital.

Two more people, who were injured in the crash, are discharged from the hospital in Gyumri; Hovhannes Chakhoyan, who was transferred to Erebuni Medical Center in Yerevan, will be discharged either on Wednesday or Thursday.   

Two others, who likewise were injured in the accident, are still in the Gyumri hospital; one of them will be discharged soon and the other, within a week.    

A tragic road accident occurred on Armenia’s Gyumri-Yerevan highway on Monday evening, as a passenger van and a truck collided. As a result, the van exploded, seven passengers were burned alive on the spot, and another seven were hospitalized. The Police regional department of investigation has launched a criminal investigation, and the truck driver, M. Vardanyan, is detained.
