YEREVAN. – France’s new Ambassador to Armenia, Jean-François Charpentier, noted his future work priorities at a press conference on Wednesday.

“I am happy and proud to be appointed to the position of Ambassador. Armenia is an important country for France, with which [i.e., Armenia] we have long standing relations,” the ambassador stated.

The French diplomat also attested to the presence of a high-level political dialogue between Armenia and France.

Charpentier added that organizing a meeting between the presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan was an opportunity for French President François Hollande to stress the devotion to the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

The French ambassador also informed that Hollande plans to visit Armenia on April 24, 2015; that is, on the centenary of the Armenian Genocide.

As per the diplomat, decentralized and interparliamentary cooperation is developing and strong ties have been established between the two countries, and this cooperation is also owing to the Armenian diaspora.

In addition, Ambassador Jean-François Charpentier announced that he hopes to achieve success in learning the Armenian language.

“With your help, of course,” he noted.
