YEREVAN. – The OSCE Minsk Group countries have no disagreements on the Nagorno-Karabakh issue.

US Ambassador to Armenia John Heffern stated the aforesaid at Wednesday’s talk with the students and faculty at Yerevan State University, and within the framework of the NATO Week in Armenia.

As per the ambassador, the Karabakh conflict is very complicated in terms of settlement.

“Despite their differences on other matters, on the Ukrainian issue, for example, the co-chairing countries—the US, France, and Russia—, which are included in the format of the OSCE Minsk Group, work together on this key issue,” Heffern noted.

He added, however, that the co-chairing countries have no intention of changing the format of the Minsk Group.

“We want to keep the existing format,” the American diplomat added.

Reflecting on the likelihood of deploying peacekeeping troops in the Karabakh conflict zone, John Heffern specifically noted: “If peacekeeping troops are deployed in the Karabakh conflict zone, a question will arise as to who will be involved in this peacekeeping mission. It is unlikely that it will be NATO. In any case, peacekeeping forces are needed in parallel with the development of the process of settlement of the issue.”

He noted yet again that NATO assists in the efforts of the parties to settle the Karabakh conflict, and supports all processes carried out by the OSCE Minsk Group.
