YEREVAN. – Armenia’s new Ambassador to Finland, Artak Apitonyan, whose diplomatic residence in the Swedish capital city of Stockholm, on Thursday presented his credentials to President Sauli Väinämö Niinistö of Finland.

Subsequently, they held a private talk, the Armenia MFA press service informed. 

The President of Finland expressed a conviction that all prerequisites exist for the further development of friendship between the two countries and nations.  

Apitonyan, for his part, noted that he, as Armenia’s ambassador, will spare no effort to strengthen relations between Armenia and Finland.    

In addition, the ambassador briefed the Finnish president on the latest developments with respect to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. In particular, he pointed to Azerbaijan’s most recent provocative action on the Line of Contact, as it shot down an Armenian helicopter. In turn, President Niinistö expressed his concern about the escalation of regional tension. He also stressed that Finland supports the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group to achieve solely a pacific resolution to this conflict.  

The interlocutors also reflected on Armenian-Finnish relations, and discussed several regional and international matters of mutual interest.
