YEREVAN. – Azerbaijan’s shooting down of a training helicopter Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh)  is a new phase in aggravating the situation, whereby Azerbaijan is attempting to bring attention onto itself and always keep the matter intense.

Ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) National Assembly Faction Secretary Gagik Melikyan noted the aforesaid at a press conference on Saturday.

In his words, the downing of this helicopter was a blow to the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs’ latest policy of holding talks with the presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan, during which the Armenian party had achieved a quite major progress and this was inconvenient for Azerbaijan.

Melikyan said that no matter how much Azerbaijan provokes, there will be no war in the region.

“Azerbaijan has a very good idea of the consequences of a state of war, and that a war would take place solely in the territory of Azerbaijan.

“I’m convinced that the Armenian army yet again proved its capacity, and the fact that the Azerbaijani army can do nothing against our armed forces.

“Truly, our army is the most powerful and most combat-ready in the region, and it is ready to face any Azerbaijani encroachment at any time,” the RPA MP stated, in particular.

According to Gagik Melikyan, the shooting down of the aforementioned helicopter can have serious consequences for Azerbaijan.

“The matter has been repeatedly discussed and has found its response,” he added.
