YEREVAN. – Armenian Deputy Agriculture Minister Samvel Galustyan said more nut orchards will be planted in Armenia within the framework of “Armenian Fruit” project funded by several foreign donors.
Under this program, a number of export-oriented fruit and nut orchards will be planted throughout the country.
Due to the compact root system, trees occupy a smaller area, which increases the yield per hectare.
“We have not had tradition of planting nut orchards: one or two trees in the yard or on the side of the orchard were usually planted. Now we want to develop a culture of growing nuts and develop their industrial exports. In the coming years we need to get tangible results,” he said.
