Armenia's Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian began his official visit to Sweden by talks with his Swedish counterpart Margot Wallström on Tuesday.

Nalbandian thanked for an invitation and warm reception and noted that bilateral relations have intensified considerably in recent years. Steps aimed at expanding Armenian-Swedish bilateral relations, Armenia-EU cooperation and current international challenges were on the agenda. In the context of the discussion of regional issues, the Ministers exchanged views on the Ukrainian crisis and ways to resolve it, Armenian MFA reported.

Minister Nalbandian noted that Armenia is interested in developing and expanding cooperation with Sweden and there are serious prerequisites for this. Ministers agreed on the fact that the opening of an embassy will give a new impetus to the deepening of cooperation between the two countries. Edward Nalbandian also invited Margot Wallström in Armenia.

At the request of the Swedish counterpart, Minister Nalbandian presented the efforts of Armenia and the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairing states for the peaceful settlement of Karabakh conflict.

“At the moment, it is important to overcome the extremely negative situation that prevailed immediately after the Paris summit due to the provocative actions of Baku: destruction of a helicopter of the NKR Defense Army that was operating a training flight by the Azerbaijani armed forces and the death of the crew,” Nalbandian said.
