YEREVAN. - Let no one label Armenian opposition as Russophobes, stated in the Armenian parliament the pro-Western Heritage party MP Zaruhi Postanjyan, Armenian News - NEWS.am reports.

“We had a good attitude towards the Russian people and culture. We are against the policy of official Moscow. These are different things,” Postanjian stressed.

The MP called unreasonable all arguments of Armenian authorities about the benefits of Russia-led Eurasian Union and expressed confidence that soon after joining the Eurasian Union “the hand of hunger will knock” at the door of Armenia.

Another critic of the Kremlin, Armenian opposition MP Alexander Arzumanyan said that he himself has Russian education, many friends and relatives in Russia.

“I am not against Russia, I am against the actions of its ruling elite. Likewise, I respect the culture of Korea, but that does not stop me to say that Kim Jong-un is a dictator. Same thing with Putin,” Arzumanyan said.

In response, the ruling Republican Party of Armenia MP Vardan Ayvazyan noted that the Eurasian Union was the best option available for Armenia. But that does not mean that that is the best option in principle.

“Theoretically, the best would be to get closer with China and go to for a local market of 1.5 billion people. The same with India, which has a billion market, where you can sell all you want. But the Eurasian Union is the most profitable option out of available options,” Ayvazian added.
