YEREVAN. – Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian on Monday received Ambassador Herbert Salber, the European Union (EU) Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia.
Nalbandian invited the EU special representative’s attention on the Azerbaijani armed forces’ recent and more frequent provocative actions on the border with Armenia and the Line of Contact with Nagorno-Karabakh.
“The Azerbaijan president’s refusal—at the Munich Security Conference at the end of last week—to accept the three well-known principles—proposed by the mediators—of international law as a basis for the settlement of the [Karabakh] conflict, [and] the positions he expressed are evidence of the continuation of the disregard toward the calls by the international community, and the maximalist line,” the Armenian FM stressed.
Nalbandian added that Azerbaijan continues to reject the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs’ proposals toward confidence-building measures, and its unconstructive position impedes the progress of the negotiation process.
Salber, for his part, reaffirmed the EU’s assistance to the Minsk Group co-chairs’ efforts to achieve a pacific settlement to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
