YEREVAN. – Zhamanak daily spoke with Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and Caucasus expert Sabina Fraser.
“The risk of a start of an ‘accidental war’ always exists in Nagorno-Karabakh [NK], since the confidence-building measures (…) are not a lot, if, of course, they exist at all. The Karabakh Armenians are becoming increasingly steadfast, and they will never give up the territories around NK.
“The [peace] talks have reached a deadlock after the meeting in Kazan [, Russia,] in 2011, when the parties failed to reach an agreement on the Basic Principles (…).
“Now, the main issue of the talks is whether the presidents [of Armenia and Azerbaijan] are willing to put aside their discussions around the Basic Principles, and start comprehensive talks that will lead to a lasting settlement, as the [OSCE Minsk Group] co-chairs propose,” Zhamanak quoted Fraser as saying.
