WASHINGTON, DC. – Armenia has made significant progress in the development of democratic institutions, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Eric Rubin said.
He pointed out development of democracy and civil society as one of the considerable achievements in Armenia, adding that the U.S. is ready to help in continuation of democratic reforms.
In fact Armenia has multiparty parliament, real discussions in media, freedom of assembly and civil society, Rubin said.
Washington's priority in relation with Yerevan is to reach economic growth and boost trade turnover and foreign investments. Rubin said they are not satisfied with the current level of economic cooperation and would like to see more American investments in Armenia's economy.
Another priority is assistance to the settlement of Karabakh conflict that has negative, unfair and painful impact on everyone, the State Department official said.
The United States is ready to work closely with both leaders to reach an agreement, he added. According to him, they realize that there is no magic solution to the problem, however, the process “should not move in the wrong direction.”
