YEREVAN. – Armenia is interested in developing its cooperation with the Czech Republic, and the opening of Armenia’s embassy in Prague is its evidence.

The speaker of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia, Galust Sahakyan, noted the aforementioned at his talk Wednesday with new Czech Ambassador Petr Mikiska.

First, Sahakyan congratulated the diplomat on his appointment and wished him success, the NA press service informed. Sahakyan also expressed confidence that Armenian-Czech relations will further enhance during the new ambassador’s mission in Armenia.

With respect to the opening of a Czech embassy in Armenia, the parliament leader stressed that this diplomatic mission will contribute to the continuity of political discourse and trade and economic cooperation, and the invigoration of human contacts between the two countries.

“The interparliamentary relations are at a high level,” Galust Sahakyan added.

He also thanked the Czech leadership for its balanced position on the Nagorno-Karabakh issue.

Speaking on Armenia-European Union (EU) cooperation, the NA chairman noted that Armenia’s decision to join the—Russia-led—Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) does not mean a termination of, or a reduction in, the Armenia-EU political dialogue. Sahakyan added that the EU continues to be one of Armenia’s key partners, and the European integration—within the framework of the EU Eastern Partnership—is a main direction in the country’s foreign policy.

Ambassador Mikiska, for his part, underscored the role of parliamentary diplomacy in the strengthening of relations between friendship countries. And in terms of bilateral cooperation, the Czech diplomat highlighted the economic sector, which has become more productive in the year past.
