YEREVAN. – President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan has responded to an open letter by ex-president Levon Ter-Petrosyan.

In his letter, President Sargsyan thanked ex-president for the concern expressed in the letter as of February 17.

“I want to note that strongly reject your wordings in connection with the Pan-Armenian Declaration on the 100th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, not only because it is the first document from the time of independence that was jointly formed by almost all structures and Armenian communities making it a kind of a symbol of national unity, but also because among the authors are professionals from around the world, people whose professionalism I trust,” President said.

Serzh Sargsyan said he cannot name “justified” the hints on possible conflict of the declaration with the Constitution or international legal instruments mentioned by TerPetrosyan in his letter.

The State Commission for the coordination of activities for the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide has been guided by a principle of taking into account all the views, President Sargsyan added.

“If there are still opinions and suggestions that have not been put on the table of common discussion for any reason, they need to be taken into account. In this sense, I think that your proposals should be discussed, too. You note that this requires a personal meeting. I do not see a problem. Moreover, I believe that your justification of the impossibility of such a meeting is absolutely inappropriate. I am ready to send you an invitation, when you consider that you still aspire for a personal conversation on the topic of events marking the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide,” President resumed.
