YEREVAN. – The ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) is strong not because it is legitimate and there is no such confidence in this political party, but because there is no countervailing force; in reality, it is weak.

Caucasus Institute Director, political scientist Alexander Iskandaryan stated the above-said at a press conference on Friday.

He noted this while reflecting on National Assembly Vice President and RPA Press Secretary Eduard Sharmazanov’s recent statement that all “roads” leading to power in Armenia pass through the RPA Headquarters.

As per Iskandaryan, the Republicans act in such a way because they do not want to work in normal fashion.

“Since in the case of working with a different format, they need to make arrangements, take into account the interests of others, share, [and] form unions, whereas this is difficult; it’s easier to destroy everything that opposes you, and continue to work alone thereafter,” the analyst said. “But this is bad for the political system.”
