YEREVAN. – Ambassador Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, the Permanent Representative of Armenia to the United Nations (UN), on Wednesday met with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
The UN Secretary-General appreciated Armenia’s active involvement in international processes, and assistance to the activities of the UN Office, the Armenia MFA press service informed.
Thanking for the reception, Ambassador Mnatsakanyan handed the text—translated into all official languages of the UN—of the Pan-Armenian Declaration on the 100th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, and noted that this document aims to strengthen and enhance the universal fight against genocide
Mnatsakanyan also briefed the UN Secretary-General on the Armenian Genocide centennial commemorations being held this year, and highly praised the key role of the UN in the efforts to prevent future genocides.
At the talk, the interlocutors exchanged views on regional matters and the avenues for their resolution.
They also reflected on the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process. In this connection, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon reaffirmed the UN’s continuing support to the settlement of this conflict within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs and based on their respective recommendations. Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, for his part, stressed the importance of adopting confidence-building measures to resolve this conflict.
