YEREVAN. – The participants in the Fourth Ordinary Session of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly (PA) on Monday paid a visit to the Armenian Genocide Memorial in capital city Yerevan.
The delegation was accompanied by Artak Zakaryan, Head of the Armenian Delegation to the Euronest PA.
The session participants laid a wreath and placed flowers to the monument to the victims of the Armenian Genocide, and paid silent tribute to 1.5 million innocent victims of this tragedy.
Tatjana Zdanoka, Member of the European Parliament (MEP) who represents Latvia, said she had heard about the Armenian Genocide when she was still a student. She noted that, here, a person is seized with anger and rage, and ponders how it is possible to forget God’s commandment to “love thy neighbor.”
Zdanoka also recalled that an Armenian cross-stone devoted to the Armenian Genocide is placed in the Latvian capital city of Riga where, and together with the representatives of the Latvian-Armenian community, they pay tribute to the genocide victims on April 24 of every year.
Jaromir Stetina, MEP representing the Czech Republic, for his part, stated that he has been to Armenia several times and visited the Armenian Genocide Memorial every time. Stetina noted that as he shares the grief and pain of the Armenian people, he also stands ready to support the decisions and documents with regard to the recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
The Czech MEP also expressed his gratitude to the European People’s Party (EPP) for adopting the Resolution on the Armenian Genocide.
