YEREVAN. – Jirair Sefilian, who heads Armenia’s opposition Founding Parliament initiative, and initiative Gevorg Safaryan were arrested a short time ago.
They were taken into custody along the lines of the criminal case into the organizing of mass disorder at the places of public events to be held in the country on April 24, the centennial of the Armenian Genocide.
The press service of the Investigative Committee of Armenia has informed about the aforementioned.
Initiative members Varuzhan Avetisyan and Pavel Manukyan were arrested at an earlier time.
As reported earlier, the law enforcement officers on Tuesday had detained Jirair Sefilian, several other initiative members, and the Armenian Rebirth movement’s Lebanon representative, Toros Sefilian, who is Jirair Sefilian’s brother.
The opposition “100th [Armenian Genocide] Anniversary Without the Regime” movement had issued a respective message.
The Investigative Committee of Armenia likewise had released a statement saying that they have prevented the organizing of mass disorder at the places of public events to be held in the country on April 24, the centennial of the Armenian Genocide.
