The British newspaper ‘The Telegraph’ made a list of 16 oldest European cities in its Travel application. Armenia’s capital Yerevan is included in the list.

According to the article, the earliest inhabitants settled in the city in 782 BC.

“Some 30 years before Rome was founded, the city that is now Armenia's capital was serving as an important stop along the caravan routes from Asia to Europe. It was invaded by Assyrians, Romans, Byzantines, Persians, Arabs, Seljuks, Mongols and Turks, and later by the Soviet Red Army in 1920,” the article says.

The article mentions that the city “is home to a bewildering number of museums” and tourism is also developing slowly.

The list also includes Mtskheta and Kutaisi cities of neighboring Georgia, as well as the cities of Greece, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Portugal, Spain and Croatia.

The oldest city in the list is Argos in Greece.
