YEREVAN. – Extensive work is underway to improve situation on the border and to enhance defenses by technical means, Armenian Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan said during a press conference on Tuesday,

The Minister noted that because of the difference of areas and remote locations the same well-established patterns can not be used everywhere. At the same time, Seyran Ohanyan noted that the surveillance system is at a high level. Detachments are equipped with night vision devices and thermal imaging cameras.

Asked about arms race initiated by Azerbaijan, the Minister said the Armenian side is closely following the situation. The armed forces are equipped by the local and foreign equipment.

“We have information about the weapons purchased by Azerbaijan. With the help of new weapons, high morale and personal trainings, we preserve the balance of forces. The armed forces fulfill their tasks,” he said during a press conference in north-eastern direction of the border with Azerbaijan.

Asked about the use of Russian weapons by the Azerbaijani side, the Minister expressed view that Russia by selling weapons to Azerbaijan, however, retains control over the situation. Moreover, the relations of Armenia and Russia in this area are at a high level, Ohanyan recalled. According to him, Russian arms in the hands of the opposing side do not cause any psychological problems for the Armenian soldiers.

“Our soldiers are ready to rebuff any opponent, no matter what weapons are used,” he emphasized.
