Eleven kindergarten students in Alashkert village of Armenia’s Armavir Province were recently hospitalized, village mayor Karen Hovhannisyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Hovhannisyan added, however, that most of these children have been discharged from hospital and solely two children still remain, but they will be discharged soon. 

The village prefect also informed that the kindergarten has been closed until all children get better, and the source of infection is found.

The affected children were diagnosed with an intestinal infection. In Hovhannisyan’s view, this infection is spread by contact.

“They probably ate poisonous cucumbers, plums in their home, [and] got infected,” he said.

And we learned from the Ministry of Health that Deputy Minister of Health Vahan Poghosyan visited Armavir Medical Center late Tuesday night.

According to the specialists, the condition of the eleven hospitalized children was relatively satisfactory. 

The deputy minister instructed to carry out additional medical assistance.

Five children were discharged from hospital on Wednesday morning.

The preventive activities and villager-awareness-raising visits are continuing on Wednesday in Alashkert.
