Mounted Israeli police clashed with Palestinian protesters as Jewish nationalists commemorated Israel’s 1967 capture of East Jerusalem. 

Palestinians threw stones at the Israelis who were marching through the old walled city, which is mainly populated by Muslims, reported the BBC Russian Service.

Two policemen and two Palestinians were injured in the ensuing clash.

The Palestinian authorities consider East Jerusalem to be the capital city of the state they seek to establish.

Speaking on what Israel calls Jerusalem Day—the anniversary of its capture of East Jerusalem from Jordan—, however, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reiterated that Jerusalem will remain united, and it will be the capital city of the Jewish state.
