YEREVAN. – Over the course of one year, seven prisoners were transferred from Russia to Armenia, notes the Ministry of Justice of Armenia report for April 1, 2014-April 1, 2015.
According to the source, during this period, Armenia submitted 195 petitions—157 of which to Russia—, with a request for transferring of convicts to Armenia. Russia approved 32 petitions, turned down 115 others, and it is still reviewing ten petitions.
Separately, 25 Iranian citizens expressed a wish to serve their sentences in their country. A Spanish citizen’s respective request was not met, whereas an Estonian citizen’s similar petition was approved. The petition of an Armenian citizen serving a prison sentence in the US was denied, whereas the request by a Ukrainian citizen serving time in Armenia was approved.
In addition, the petition of an Armenian citizen in a Ukrainian prison is being reviewed. One Russian citizen’s petition, with a request for serving his prison sentence in his country, was approved, whereas a Georgian citizen’s respective request was denied.
