YEREVAN. – The Eastern Partnership summit in Riga, held on May 21-22, has displayed re-commitment to continue negotiations, Mr Marten Enberg, Charge d’affaires of Sweden in Armenia, told Armenia News - NEWS.am.

Commitment is evident on behalf of both the EU and Armenia, he believes.

Two sides are on track to draw up the legal framework to renew negotiations, he said and praised the understanding on visa dialogue.

“It was clear that we are open to move forward, but there are also certain requirements that Armenia needs to take. They deal with biometric passports, anti-discrimination legislation in trade and other areas”, Mr Enberg said. These processes are technical but require attention, he added. 

Asked whether the re-commitment of Armenia is clearly visible, he said: “The fact that the President himself went to this summit speaks to this”.

The Eastern Partnership initiative, inaugurated in May 2009, was a brainchild of Sweden and Poland. It aims to strengthen partnership with six CIS states: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.
