YEREVAN. - The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Edward Nalbandian, on Tuesday met, in the Syrian capital city of Damascus, with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Walid al-Moallem of Syria.

Nalbandian stressed that Armenia is deeply concerned by the ongoing clashes in Syria as well as the humanitarian crisis and numerous casualties and destruction as a result of the actions by terrorists, reported the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia.

The Armenian FM noted that this crisis can be surmounted solely by stopping violence and holding a constructive dialogue that takes into account the interests of all parties to this conflict.

The ministers also reflected on Armenian-Syrian relations.

Following the talk, Edward Nalbandian and Walid al-Moallem held a joint news conference.

The FM of Armenia also met with Speaker Mohammad Jihad al-Laham of the People’s Council (Parliament) of Syria.

Nalbandian appreciated Laham-led Syrian delegation’s attendance to the Armenian Genocide Centennial commemorations that were held in Yerevan, the capital city of Armenia, in April.

In the ensuing talk, the interlocutors discussed the avenues for stabilizing the situation in Syria. The Syrian People’s Council leader presented the parliament’s activities toward surmounting the crisis in the country.

“Armenia wants for the friend Syria to overcome the difficulties soon and return to normal life, which will contribute to the establishment of stability in the region,” FM Nalbandian noted, for his part.

The interlocutors also reflected on interparliamentary cooperation. In this context, the Syrian parliament leader appreciated the Armenian National Assembly MPs’ attention toward the processes taking place in Syria.
