YEREVAN. – The first message of the May victories is that the independence of Armenia was proclaimed for the first time.
Director of the National Archives of Armenia, Amatuni Virabyan, noted the abovementioned at a press conference on Thursday.
In his words, the second message of the May victories is the unity of the Armenian people, since the whole nation was united and it understood that if it did not fight, it will be destroyed.
And the third message is that Turkey, Germany, and Austria-Hungary were defeated.
“The Battle of Sardarapat [in Armenia] began on May 22, 1918,” Amatuni said. “The situation of the population of Western Armenia was very grave, but the Armenian troops achieved victory by uniting.”
Director of the National Archives of Armenia added that, as a result, Turkey was forced to sign a treaty with independent Armenia.
