YEREVAN. – People not having appropriate education do not have to present Armenia to foreigners, rector of the Armenian Tourism Institute Robert Minasyan told reporters on Wednesday.

For example, in Israel only a person having professional education and having a certificate can work as a guide. He is working with foreigners, and therefore he needs to know languages, history, and art of communication.

“If he presents his country not that attractive, less tourists will come. They do realize this. And we, unfortunately, are not sufficiently demanding to guides,” he said.

Training courses for tour guides, including the USAID program, were held, but Minasyan believes they do not give profound knowledge.

“A five-month training and you get a certificate. How can a person learn history or architecture in five months?” he wonders.
